My grandpa's old woodworking chisel popped up on eBay for $2 and I didn't bid

Found out later it was a 1900s Stanley that goes for $150 plus at antique tool auctions. Has anyone else here overlooked something obvious in a thrift pile that ended up being rare?

Aw man, that stings. I once passed on a beat up old fishing reel at a garage sale for five bucks. Turned out to be a rare pre-war model that collectors go nuts for. Now I always double check my gut before walking away.

Did you end up buying that reel after you found out what it was worth? I feel your pain though. My version of this is passing on a lumpy old sofa for twenty bucks at a yard sale, only to find out later it was some fancy mid-century designer piece. I guess my gut is more of a garbage detector than a treasure map. At least you learned from it, I'm still kicking myself over that couch.
