Blew $80 on a 'contractor grade' tape measure that died in 3 months

Picked up one of those fancy fat max tape measures with the rubber casing at Home Depot. Thought it'd last forever. By week 8 the hook started slipping, by week 12 the spring just gave up and it won't retract. Stick with the $15 Stanley's from here, anyone else had a premium tool totally flop on em?

$80 for a tape measure that broke... kinda sounds like you got a dud more than anything.

Know a buddy who grabbed a top of the line DeWalt drill set, paid like $400 for it. First week the chuck started wobbling like crazy, then the battery wouldn't hold a charge after a month. He was so pissed he took it back to the job site and @johnb95 was right there watching him box it up. Ended up swapping for a cheaper Makita set and it's been fine for two years now... sometimes you just get a Friday afternoon special I guess.
