Shoutout to the DMV clerk who told me my license was suspended for 6 years

Went to renew my license last Friday and the lady at the counter in Phoenix hit me with a shocker. She said my license had been suspended since 2019 over an old parking ticket I never got. I paid that ticket 3 years ago, dug up the receipt on my phone and showed her. Turns out the system never updated the payment, so I've been driving illegally for half a decade without knowing it. Has anyone else found a random suspension or hold on their record from years back?

Bet you anything that clerk would've just let you walk out without saying anything if you hadn't dug up that receipt on the spot, wonder how many people are in the same boat but never caught it.

Yeah, no kidding. @john_murphy, that thought crossed my mind too. Most people would just take the clerk's word for it and figure they had to deal with it later. I bet there's hundreds of drivers in Phoenix alone with old holds like that just sitting there quietly. The system is so broken that they'll keep sending you notices for stuff you paid years ago, and nobody checks unless you walk in with proof.
