My week from hell with that 'smart' thermostat upgrade
I finally caved and bought a Nest thermostat last Tuesday after my buddy Dave swore by his. Installation took 4 hours because the wiring in my 1978 ranch house was a clown show, and then the thing kept locking me out of my own heat settings. By Friday morning it was 58 degrees in my living room and I had to rip it out and put the old mercury one back in. Has anyone else had a supposedly 'smart' gadget actually make your life worse instead of better?

Laughed out loud at the "clown show" wiring because same here. My 1980s house has wires that look like a raccoon tangled them together. Got a "smart" outlet once that kept turning my lamp on at 3 AM like it was pranking me. Ripped that thing out so fast and went back to flipping a switch like a caveman. Sometimes the old tech is just better, man. Mercury thermostat gang for life.

You guys are making me feel way better about my own smart home disasters, seriously. I swear half these gadgets are designed by people who never lived in an actual house with real wiring. @grayperez that 3 AM lamp prank would have sent me straight to the hardware store for a hammer. I had a "smart" smoke detector that kept chirping because it claimed the air was too humid, in my drafty house in January. Ripped it out and put the old dumb one back in, no regrets.
