My calc professor made us do a 3-hour test without calculators, totally changed how I study

Last semester at City College, my calculus professor locked all phones and calculators in a box before the final. I bombed it hard because I relied on my TI-84 for basic derivatives. Now I practice every problem by hand at least 3 times before any test. Has anyone else had a teacher pull something like this that forced you to change your routine?

@alice808 nah no curve, just a reality check and a bruised ego. My brain basically short-circuited when I realized I couldn't just punch numbers into a calculator. Now I'm that guy doing derivative drills in the break room with a pencil like some math monk. Did you switch up your study habits after any similar nightmares?

Yeah but did you at least get a curve after that? My buddy had a professor who did that and the class average was like a 42 so he had no choice but to curve everyone up a full letter grade.
