My $150 ceramic knife set chipped on the first avocado I cut

I bought this fancy looking set from a mall kiosk, thought I was upgrading from my old steel knives. Now I'm back to using my dad's beat-up carbon steel chef knife and it actually holds an edge way better. Has anyone else gotten burned by overpriced ceramic blades?

My roommate bought a $200 ceramic knife set and the first time she tried to cut a butternut squash the tip snapped right off. She still rants about it whenever anyone mentions avocados.

Jumping in to say your roommate is totally right to still be mad. $200 for a knife that can't handle a butternut squash is a serious ripoff, especially when a $30 chef's knife would've crushed that thing. Ceramic is just too brittle for that kind of hard squash, it's like using a glass hammer, you know? Did she ever try to get a refund or just stuck with the broken pieces?
