That fake recruiter call taught me to ask for a real office address

I got a call from someone claiming to be from a company called OmniTech Solutions, based in Austin TX. They offered me a remote data entry job paying $28 an hour but got super defensive when I asked for their actual office address. After I hung up and googled them, found out it was a known phishing setup. Has anyone else had luck checking addresses on Google Maps before accepting interviews?

You mentioned they got 'super defensive' when you asked for the office address - that's usually the biggest red flag. Legit companies are totally fine giving out their physical location, even for remote jobs. I've had a few sketchy calls where they danced around basic questions like that too. Always check their address on Google Maps first, but also look for a real street address not just a P.O. box or a shared coworking space that doesn't match their company name. If it's a real business, they'll have a legit building or suite number listed online.

Yeah, I had a friend who googled an address from a sketchy "job offer" and it was just an empty lot. @nora184 is right, dodging basic questions is the biggest tell.
