I finally fell for a VHS tape that supposedly had "lost" episodes of a cartoon...

Spent $45 on an eBay listing claiming to have a rare recording of a banned UK kids show from the 80s. The guy had a whole story about his dad being a TV engineer... turned out it was just a blank tape with a hand-drawn label. I even messaged him and he said "it was a joke, sorry". No refund, no tape, just a lesson learned. Has anyone else gotten burned by these supposedly "golden" finds in old collections?

$45 is a bargain for a lesson that obvious.

And what exactly was the lesson here - that paying more doesn't always mean getting your money's worth, or that sometimes you have to learn things the hard way before they actually stick? Because I've sat through enough overpriced sessions that sounded good on paper but left me more confused than when I walked in. Was there a specific moment in that lesson where it finally clicked for you, or was it more of a slow burn that built up over time?
