DVD vs VHS for finding old TV commercials
I spent months trying to dig up a local ad from 1992 by combing through VHS recordings from a yard sale in Buffalo. Then I found out the same ad was on a DVD-R of a TV special that someone uploaded to archive.org in 2018. The DVD capture was way clearer and had no tracking issues. Has anyone else had better luck with digital formats over analog for lost media?

Wait wait wait, you're telling me you actually found a 1992 local ad on archive.org from a DVD-R? That's wild. I mean, I get that digital captures are cleaner, but I figured most of that old stuff would be rotting on tape in someone's basement forever. Honestly, I've had way better luck with random DVD-Rs people burned back in the day too. Those old VHS rips on YouTube look like they were recorded through a dirty fishbowl half the time.

Ha, @ryanhayes just called those old VHS rips a dirty fishbowl and honestly I feel attacked because my own tapes look like I recorded them through a wet sock.
