Just caught my electrician using speaker wire for a 20 amp circuit in my basement rewiring job
I walked in on him mid-splice after I noticed the wire didn't have the right gauge markings and asked to check his box, and he just shrugged and said it would 'probably hold up' which made me realize I should have been spot-checking every contractor from day one in Edmonton.

Idk maybe check the ampacity rating on speaker wire before letting anyone shrug it off, that stuff isn't even rated for 20 amps usually.
