Finally figured out why my concrete patio kept cracking after 2 winters

Turns out the guy I hired didn't put in control joints deep enough so I had a local contractor cut new ones for $150 and no cracks since, anyone else have this issue with their driveway or patio?

Hold on, I'll push back on this a little. Control joints are just one part of it, but they won't fix everything. If your base wasn't compacted right or you didn't use enough rebar, those cracks are just gonna show up somewhere else no matter how deep the joints are. I've seen patios with perfect joints that still looked like a spider web after one winter because the ground settled wrong underneath. That $150 fix feels good now, but it might just be covering up a bigger problem that'll pop up in a few years. I'd keep an eye on it and make sure the drainage around the slab is really good too.

Did you check if the soil underneath was clay or sand before they poured?
