Got scammed at a 'legal consultation' on Yonge Street and now I check every credential

I paid $350 to some guy in an office above a vape shop near Dundas Square, thought I was getting a real lawyer for a landlord issue. Turned out he wasn't even licensed with the Law Society of Ontario, just some dude who watched a lot of court TV. Now I always ask for their LSUC number and look it up before handing over cash. Has anyone else run into these fake 'paralegals' charging crazy fees?

Did I used to roll my eyes at people who checked every license before paying? Yeah, totally. Thought it was paranoid overkill. But after getting burned by a fake "mediator" who had a fancy website and a rented boardroom table in a coworking space, I started pulling up the Law Society registry on my phone before even shaking hands. Now I feel kinda dumb for thinking a suit and a firm handshake meant anything.

Dude that's rough, $350 for some guy who binge-watched Suits is mad sketchy. Did you ever try to get your money back from the building management or the vape shop downstairs? They let him rent the space so they gotta have some responsibility for letting a fake lawyer run shop.
