Hit 100 job applications today - that number finally hit different

I was just tracking apps for fun (spreadsheet nerd here) but when I saw triple digits I actually stopped and counted back through the rejections and silences. Out of 100 apps I got maybe 12 callbacks and 2 interviews. Has anyone else tracked their numbers and gotten shocked by the ratio?

Buddy of mine hit 150 apps before he got a single offer.

Well shoot, 150 apps is brutal but honestly not that surprising anymore. The trick is you can't just blast out the same generic resume to every listing. You gotta tailor each one to the job description even if it's just swapping out a few keywords. Also tell your buddy to stop applying through the big job boards and start reaching out to actual hiring managers on LinkedIn or through their network. And if he's not following up after a week with a polite email or message, he's leaving money on the table.
