Totally lost and found a secret beach party

I took a wrong turn and ended up at this local gathering, feeling like a total outsider. They handed me a drink and now I get why getting lost can be the best part of a trip.

That back-alley ramen joint I stumbled into in Osaka was better than any famous place. The best travel memories always seem to come from wrong turns.

Totally get that outsider feeling at first. One time I took a bus going the wrong way and ended up at a tiny town festival. What worked for me was just smiling and saying yes to whatever they offered. I found that people are usually pretty happy to include you if you seem open to it. It turned into a whole day of eating weird local food and listening to stories. Those unplanned moments really stick with you, way more than the stuff you see in guidebooks.
