My dad still thinks glassblowing is just a hobby, not a real job.

It's a skilled trade that puts food on the table, period.

Seriously, my friend's uncle does custom glasswork for museums and it pays his whole mortgage. People see "art thing" and immediately think it's not real work, which makes my blood boil.

Ugh yes, this gets me so fired up. My cousin does expert frame restoration for old paintings, and that's her whole career, pays all her bills. People act like if you work with your hands on something beautiful, it's just a hobby. The skill for that museum glasswork is insane, and the hours are long. It's straight up skilled labor, same as any trade.
