Serious question, after noticing how taking rocks from a hillside on a recent job messed with the water flow, what steps actually work for keeping the soil in place?
Seeing the washout after a heavy rain made it clear that moving earth has consequences, and I'm looking for tips on doing it right without harming the land.

Ever notice how a cracked driveway or a bare spot in a yard can suddenly turn into a mini river during a storm? It's the same idea. For slopes, putting down erosion control blankets made of straw or coconut fiber right after you dig can really help hold things, and planting deep rooted native plants is the long term fix. The key is covering bare dirt fast, before the rain hits it.

Totally. Used straw blankets on a steep bank last fall, staked them down real good. Threw down some clumping native grass seed at the same time. Slowed the washouts right down by spring.
