Finally figured out why my basil kept dying every summer

I live in Phoenix and last June I moved my potted basil into afternoon shade and it tripled in size within 2 weeks. Anyone else had a plant surprise them after you changed one small thing?

Isn't full afternoon sun in Phoenix more like a death sentence than a growth boost for basil? I mean, if your plant tripled in size from moving it into shade, that sounds like the sun was literally cooking it before. Mint might die in full shade (which is weird for mint, honestly), but basil is a different beast in a place that hits 115 degrees.

My mint died in full shade last year, so I actually think sun is what basil really needs.
