Wasted $80 on a magnetic pickup tool that stripped out first use
I bought one of those long flexible snake magnets from the parts store to retrieve a socket I dropped down an engine bay. On the second pull, the magnet head literally snapped off inside the housing, so now I have TWO pieces stuck down there. Anyone else had luck with the cheaper telescoping claw grabbers instead?

Honestly, are we acting like this is the end of the world? A socket fell down an engine bay and now you're down a magnet. That's a Tuesday. Just go grab a cheap extendable claw from the dollar store for five bucks, they work fine for fishing stuff out of tight spots. People act like dropping a tool is some kind of tragedy when half the time you can just wiggle it out with a wire hanger. Save your money and stop buying fancy gimmick tools that look like they belong on a TV shopping channel.

@willow672 you're totally right about the claw thing but nobody's talking about how sometimes you can just use a vacuum cleaner with a thin attachment. i've fished out screws, bolts, even a whole 10mm socket from under my truck with a shop vac before. way easier than bending over with a magnet for twenty minutes. plus if you tape a straw to the end you can get into ridiculous tight spots. willow you'd be surprised what a vacuum can grab that a claw never will.
