Heard a guy at the hardware store say 'buy once cry once' about impact sockets
I was picking up some random plumbing fittings and overheard two dudes by the tool aisle. One was complaining about his socket set stripping out on a lug nut. The other guy just shrugged and said that line about buying once. It got me thinking about all the cheap wrenches I've snapped over the past 3 years. Maybe I need to start tossing more than $15 at a single tool instead of replacing everything twice.

So are we supposed to just keep buying the same cheap wrench over and over until it breaks, and somehow that's cheaper than getting one good one? Sounds like my budget for tools is just a subscription to frustration at this point. You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still gonna strip out a bolt when you need it most. I learned that lesson the hard way when my $10 socket set decided to round off a frozen nut on my lawnmower deck right before the grass got too tall. Now I've got a $40 replacement socket that stares at me from the drawer like it knows it won. Bet that guy at the hardware store never has to borrow his neighbor's impact to finish a job.
