Vent: My new waterproof jacket leaked within 20 minutes of a light drizzle in Portland
Was out at Powell Butte last weekend testing a shell I dropped $180 on and by the time I got to the parking lot my shoulders were soaked. The seams were taped but the zipper flap just let water right through. Anyone else find a rain jacket that actually holds up in a real downpour?

Standing in a light drizzle for 20 minutes isn't really a "real downpour" though, is it? Maybe just get a cheap umbrella for $10 and call it a day.

Standing in a light drizzle for 20 minutes" is basically a Portland baptism these days, so yeah, I feel like that counts as a real test! Man, I must have gone through five different "waterproof" jackets before I just gave up and accepted I'll always look like a drowned rat. My trick is to buy cheap ones from thrift stores now, and then I don't even care if they leak because it only cost me $8. And honestly, an umbrella is a death wish in any halfway decent wind, you end up chasing it down the street like a goof. So congrats on your now-wet shoulders, welcome to the club I started in 2009.
