That electrician who told me 'just use the cheap wire nuts' cost me a weekend redo
Buddy of mine (works commercial) swore the cheap orange wire nuts from the hardware store are fine for home stuff. I used them on my basement rewire last month and three of them literally fell off when I was buttoning up the panel. Had to pull half the circuits and redo everything with the tan ones that actually grip. Has anyone else had cheap connectors fail on them or did I just get a bad batch?

Did those cheap ones have the little springs inside or were they solid plastic? I tried some of those solid plastic ones from the dollar bin once and they stripped out after one twist. The ones with the metal insert and the spiral spring are worth the extra two bucks for sure.

ok but did you actually check if the spiral ones were actual metal or just painted plastic? i swear i got fooled by that once, looked legit but the spring was just a coated wire that snapped right off.
