Best week I ever had in the garage was last March
Had an old Chevy 350 that just would not fire. Been sitting for two years. Bought it off a guy in Tulsa for 300 bucks. Wednesday I pulled the distributor. Found a nest of dead mice under the cap. Cleaned it up, new plugs, new wires. Turned the key and it fired on the first crank. Ran like a sewing machine for three days straight. My buddy Mike came over and we took it for a cruise down Route 66. Anyone else ever get that lucky with a cheap barn find?

300 bucks for a running Chevy 350? Damn, that's a steal. I've bought two trucks that way and both times the engine was locked up tighter than a drum. That mouse nest under the distributor cap is a new one on me though, I've pulled caps full of rust and old grease but never a whole rodent apartment complex.

Rodents are just drawn to warmth and shelter the same way people are drawn to a good deal on a running engine, I guess. It's funny how life works like that - a great opportunity usually comes with some hidden mess you gotta clean up first. Whether it's a car engine or a fixer-upper house or even a job offer that sounds too good to be true, there's always something nested in there you didn't plan on dealing with. People think they're getting a lucky break, but really they're just signing up for a project that needs patience and a lot of elbow grease. Seems like nothing worth having comes without its own little surprise package, doesn't it?
