Appreciation post: My accountant told me to charge $120 an hour instead of $80, and I thought he was crazy (but he was right)

Spot this all the time with friends who freelance. They undercharge because they're scared no one will pay, then they're shocked when the higher rate actually gets more respect. It's like pricing a used car too low makes people think it's broken. My buddy doubled his design rate and suddenly clients stopped asking for a million tiny changes.

Shocked when the higher rate gets more respect" is a bit much, lane.joel. Sometimes people just pay more and still act like jerks.

Right? It's wild how that works. I used to think a lower price was the only way to get jobs. Then I bumped my rate up. The calls didn't stop. The clients who called were way more serious. They listened better, didn't argue about every little thing. It filters out the people who just want the cheapest thing.
