Pro tip: Giving cores extra bake time prevents casting defects.
I found that rushing the core drying leads to gas holes in the final piece. Adding a few more hours in the oven makes a huge difference.

That idea about extra bake time preventing defects doesn't always hold up for me. I've actually gotten more core breakdowns and fins when I over-baked them. Last week I added two hours like you said and the sand got so brittle it cracked during pouring. Sometimes a slower ramp up in heat works better than just baking longer, lol.

Curious about the slower ramp. What temperature steps and time at each stage? When did the sand crack, during heating or after pouring? And what's the biggest factor in preventing fins in your setup?
