Rant: A client in Boise told me my quarter-inch expansion gaps looked sloppy and cheap.

Now I use a spacer system for every single plank, even on small jobs, because that one comment made me realize the gaps were the only thing people saw first.

Nah I gotta push back on this one a little. Quarter inch is totally fine for engineered hardwood in most climates, and clients usually don't even notice unless you're leaving them uneven or wide like a half inch. That one guy in Boise probably had a bad day or was just looking for something to complain about. No need to go full NASA on every job unless you're working with some real finicky wide planks that shift a ton.

My own Boise ghost still haunts me, so now I overcompensate with spacers like I'm building a NASA floor.

Wait, they complained about a quarter inch? That's the standard gap, what did they even want? I can't believe one picky person changed your whole process like that. Now I'm wondering if my own gaps look wrong to clients and I just don't know it.
