That 1980s split-level with the bathroom in the kitchen

I was looking at old listings from my hometown in Ohio last week, and kept seeing these split-level houses where the only full bathroom was right off the kitchen counter. My aunt's house had that setup, and we had to walk through the living room just to wash hands after dinner. Has anyone else dealt with a floor plan where the bathroom placement just made no sense?

Yeah exactly what @jason958 said, that toothbrush near the toaster image is way too accurate. My friend's grandma had one of those setups and you had to step over the dog bowl to close the bathroom door. Like you're trying to have a private moment and someone's frying bacon three feet away. The worst part was the sink was just a tiny corner basin with no counter space, so you'd have your toothbrush touching the dish rack. Just really makes you question what the architect was thinking with that whole era of housing.

Right, because nothing says fine dining like brushing your teeth next to the toaster. Whoever designed those layouts definitely had a weird thing for multitasking.
