Curious if anyone else got roasted for their horizon photos
I posted my beach horizon shot last week and someone pointed out I was shooting from only 5 feet up, which barely shows any curve at all. They told me I needed to get above 50 feet or use a longer lens to actually demonstrate the drop, and honestly I felt dumb for not thinking of that. Anyone else get humbled by specific feedback like that and change how you present your evidence?

The 50 foot thing is a bit of a myth people throw around. You don't actually need to be that high to see curvature, it depends a lot on the lens and how flat the horizon is. 5 feet up with a normal lens can show a slight drop if the conditions are right and you have a clear view. The bigger issue is usually lens distortion or atmospheric haze messing with the line, not the height alone. Your original photo probably looked fine for what it was, people just get hung up on specific numbers.

Yeah, I did the same thing a few months back from a beach with a clear horizon and my phone camera showed a tiny drop even from standing height. People get way too caught up on that number and miss the real variables.
