Fixed my PS4 with a penny after 3 failed attempts at the repair shop
My PS4 kept overheating and shutting off after 20 minutes of gaming. Took it to a shop near me in Portland and they wanted $80 just to clean the fan. Tried blowing it out with compressed air myself but it still crashed. Then I saw a Reddit post about stacking a penny under the rubber feet to lift the console up a bit. Turns out the vents on the bottom were sitting too close to my TV stand and blocking airflow. Put a penny under each corner and now it runs cool for hours. Anyone else use weird household stuff to fix their consoles?

Yeah I gotta push back on this one. Stacking pennies under a console is a bandaid fix not a real solution. If your PS4 is overheating that bad the thermal paste is probably dried up and the fan might be caked with dust you cant see. Lifting it up helps a little but it wont fix the root problem. I tried the penny trick on my old launch PS4 and it still sounded like a jet engine after a month. Ended up taking it apart myself to clean the heatsink and repaste it. That actually fixed it for real.

Oh totally agree with @kelly.parker, I did the same thing with my PS4 Pro and it was just delaying the inevitable. Once I actually took it apart and cleaned the heatsink, it was like a whole new console, quiet and running cool again.
