The foam roller my PT said to avoid actually fixed my hip pain
My physical therapist in Denver told me to never use the spiky foam rollers because they bruise the muscle. After 6 months of no progress, I grabbed a $12 one from Target out of frustration. Has anyone else found their PT's advice was dead wrong for their specific issue?

Saw a sports med doc on YouTube actually breaking down why spiky foam rollers can be good for some people. Goes against what most PTs say but the science backs it up for certain issues like hip tightness. Those spike rollers work on trigger points differently than the smooth ones. Your PT probably gave you the standard advice without looking at your specific problem. Glad you trusted your gut and tried it. Sometimes the old school ways work better than the fancy professional opinions.

The YouTube doc spitting truth about the spike rollers is refreshing. Nobody talks about how the spikes actually work better for people with denser fascia. The smooth rollers just slide over the surface but the spikes dig down into the tissue where the real knots live. I had a similar issue with my hip and the smooth roller did nothing. Bought a cheap spike ball and it found spots I never knew were tight. Sometimes the pros are too stuck in the textbook.
