In my house, we still mend screens with spline instead of buying new
People say replacement is easier, but rescreening teaches skills and cuts down on waste. A ripped screen doesn't make the whole frame useless.

Totally agree with fixing them.

A ripped screen lets in way more than just bugs. Honestly, the direct sunlight through a hole can raise the temperature in that room by several degrees on a summer afternoon. You are basically letting your AC work harder and wasting money on your power bill. Fixing the screen keeps your house cooler and saves energy.

Honestly, never thought about it that way but it makes total sense. My place had a torn screen in the living room and it felt like a sauna in there. The AC was running non-stop just to keep up. Got it fixed and noticed the room stayed cooler without the extra strain. So yeah, definitely worth taking care of sooner rather than later.
