Update: I read a report that said vinyl fence demand jumped 40% in the Southeast last quarter
I found this in a trade magazine for building materials at my local supply house. It was a small article on page 12, but the number really stood out. It made me think about how many more calls I've been getting for vinyl quotes compared to wood lately. Has anyone else in Georgia or the Carolinas seen this kind of shift in what customers are asking for?

That's a huge jump... do you think it's mostly people replacing old wood fences that rotted, or are new builds going for vinyl now too? I wonder if the price of pressure treated lumber finally pushed people over the edge after all these years.

Both for sure. See it all the time in new subdivisions, every house gets the same white vinyl box. But also neighbors are tired of replacing wood every ten years. Lumber prices were the last straw for a lot of people. Now it's just the default choice even if it looks kind of cheap.

Oh it's definitely BOTH. New builders love vinyl because it goes up fast and the HOA's approve the look without a fuss. But I swear half the guys on my street tore out rotted wood last summer and went straight to vinyl, said they were DONE painting and replacing pickets every few years. Wood prices were already stupid but now it's like people just gave up on the whole idea of a wooden fence.
