I blew $1,200 on a 'universal' post driver attachment that bent on the third cedar post.

Watched my buddy buy a similar "heavy duty" driver last spring. He got maybe five fence posts in before the whole thing just folded like a cheap lawn chair. The metal was way thinner than the pictures showed, total junk. He spent weeks arguing with the company for a refund that never came. Some of this universal stuff is just cheap pot metal with a fancy paint job. Really makes you wonder what they're actually testing these things on.

My uncle bought one of those universal socket sets from a late night TV ad. The commercial showed a guy using it on a rusty truck bolt, but the first time my uncle tried it on a lawnmower, the little adapter piece just snapped in half. It was like it was made of the same stuff as a soda can. He still has the big plastic case it came in, uses it to store random nails now. Makes you really trust those demo videos.

Yeah that "heavy duty" label gets slapped on everything now. I've got a universal set from a hardware store brand that's held up for years, even on car stuff. The cheap TV ones use brittle cast metal, but the decent ones have a different feel, more weight to them. It's all about where it comes from, not the idea itself.
