Update: Sewing lace by hand changed how I work

I added lace to a skirt without a machine. My fingers hurt until I tried a thimble. What tools do you rely on for hand sewing?

Honestly, hand sewing lace is a total game changer for detail. Tbh, a good pair of embroidery scissors with fine points changed everything for me, way better than regular ones. Ngl, using beeswax on the thread before I start makes it so much stronger and stops it from tangling. A needle threader is a lifesaver for those tiny eyes, I won't even try without one now. Good light and a magnifier lamp stopped my eyes from hurting as much as my fingers.

See, I've always gotten by with basic thread and my old fabric scissors. All those extra tools just seem to overcomplicate a simple stitch.

A thimble and good light are non-negotiable, but have you tried a silicone finger guard for the sore spots?
