I used to think pockets ruined the line of a dress
Last month, I saw a woman in Seattle wearing a simple linen dress with deep side pockets, and it looked amazing. She said, 'I can carry my phone and keys without a bag, and it still hangs right.' Has anyone else found a way to add pockets that actually work?

Wasn't there a whole article about how to add pockets without messing up the fabric? I read that if you match the pocket lining to the dress weight, it won't pull or sag. A tailor can sew them into the side seams pretty easy. It totally changes how you use a dress when you have a real pocket. I'm never going back to those tiny fake ones again lol.

Oh man, @alice_wilson73, I did that to my favorite dress and it's a game changer.

Yeah, that side seam trick is the way to go. I did it on a pair of work slacks that had those useless little pocket flaps. Found some denim scraps in the garage that matched close enough, sewed them right into the side seams. Now I can actually carry my phone and keys without everything falling out when I sit down. It took maybe an hour and the fabric never pulled or sagged.
