A dance performance completely shifted how I view ruffles

Ruffles looked way too busy in sketches to me. Then I saw costumes at a ballet where each ruffle moved with the dancer. It was MAGICAL and proved texture can create flow. Now I'm designing a piece with layered ruffles for my portfolio.

I watched a barista at my local shop make a latte art swan for five minutes straight. The way the milk moved from the pitcher looked messy up close, but in her hands it became this smooth, living line. Your ruffle story hits that same truth - sketches are dead, but fabric on a body tells the whole story. I see it everywhere now, like how a wrinkled sheet looks awful on the bed but perfect in a photo of ocean waves. You only really get a material when you see it break its own rules in motion. That portfolio piece is going to turn out solid because you learned that firsthand.

Wait five minutes for a swan? That barista must have the patience of a saint, my local spot rushes it out in like thirty seconds. I can't imagine watching milk that long without getting antsy. The foam would totally separate, right?

It's like we only know stuff by watching it get used up.
