Struck by how quiet the shop is without the constant ring of hand-forging

I was shaping a shoe on the anvil yesterday, and it hit me how different this feels from when I started. Back in my early days, we made every shoe from scratch, heating and hammering each piece. Now, I often pick pre-made shoes that just need fitting. I remember the sweat and time it took to get a perfect curve. Today, it's more about getting the fit just right with tools like grinders and nippers. But sometimes, I miss the craft of building from raw steel. That connection to the metal taught me patience and skill. Now, I blend old methods with new for the best results.

Honestly, I kinda like the quiet more. It means I can focus better on the precise fit now.

Used to believe a little noise kept me on track. Your take on quiet for precise work flipped that idea. Spent an hour in silence adjusting some gears, and the focus was unreal. My old method seems pretty loud now. Okay, you win this round.

That old ring was like a heartbeat for the shop. The quiet now feels empty even if the work gets done faster. Finding a middle ground where you keep a little of that soul is the real trick.
