My plan to save money by camping in Yellowstone fell apart when a bear got our food on night two.
We had to drive 50 miles to the nearest town for supplies and ended up spending more than a hotel would've cost. Anyone else have a trip that got way more expensive after one thing went wrong?

Look at it this way, you got a real bear story out of it. A hotel would have just given you a boring continental breakfast and a weak shower. That fifty mile drive and the extra cost bought you a genuine wilderness experience, the kind people hope for but rarely get. Your trip became memorable instead of just another camping checklist. Sometimes the financial loss is just the price of a better story.

Seth's right, but that story cost a new cooler too.

Exactly, you're paying for the story.
