Vent: I rushed a panel upgrade in a 1978 split-level last month and almost caused a fire.

Forget the permit part, the real rush happens before that. You're trying to beat sunset or the homeowner is breathing down your neck to get their AC back on. That's when you might torque a lug wrong or cross a neutral. Saw a guy once nearly fry a whole panel because he rushed the main feed connection with the utility power still live. Just to save an hour waiting for the disconnect.

Rushing a panel upgrade is so scary. I see this everywhere now, like people trying to fix their own garbage disposals or rewire lamps to save a quick buck. That pressure to just get it done fast instead of right is how small mistakes turn into huge problems. What made you feel like you had to rush the job?

Wait, are you talking about a full electrical panel upgrade or just swapping a breaker? Because a panel upgrade is a huge job that needs a permit and an inspection, you can't really rush that part. But I've seen people try to DIY a new breaker for an AC unit or something because they're sweating in the heat and just want it fixed now. That's where the real danger is, trying to skip the inspection step to get the power back on faster.
