Tried to fix a leaky faucet with plumber's tape versus the actual cartridge

Wrapped the threads three times with tape, still dripped. Swapped the whole cartridge for a $12 part from Ace, leak stopped in five minutes. Anyone else waste time on a band-aid fix that just needed the right part?

My buddy did that with his shower valve last month. He spent an hour with tape before he finally caved and bought the new valve. Works perfect now.

Yeah, sometimes the old parts are just too worn out for tape to fix. Good on him for not wasting a whole weekend on it.

I've got a whole drawer of plumber's tape that's basically a monument to my stubbornness.
