TIL my plan to fix a leaky faucet in my Portland apartment turned into a bigger mess

I tried replacing the cartridge in my kitchen faucet last weekend, but I didn't shut off the main water line first. Water sprayed everywhere for about two minutes before I got it under control, soaking the cabinet and floor. It taught me to always double-check the basics before starting a repair. Has anyone else had a plumbing fix go sideways like that?

It's the same with flat-pack furniture.

Well that's one way to give your kitchen a deep clean, right? Classic move, turning a simple cartridge swap into an indoor fountain feature. At least you didn't try to stop the spray with your thumb like a cartoon character. Bet you won't forget the main shutoff again.

Honestly, @angelapalmer is right, it's that same mix of overconfidence and ignoring the directions. At least a flooded floor dries faster than a wobbly bookshelf falls over.
