Rant: My first attempt at a raised garden bed was a total flop compared to my second.

I built one with untreated pine that rotted in 8 months, then switched to cedar and it's held up for 3 seasons now. What other materials have you guys used that lasted?

Oh man, that "rotted in 8 months" line HURTS. I felt that. Cedar is a total game changer, right? So much better.

My neighbor used untreated pine for a raised bed and it was basically mulch by the second season. The cedar one I helped him build is going on year four now, just a little gray. It's wild how much of a difference the right wood makes. You pay more up front, but you're not replacing it every other year. That initial sting fades when you realize you're done with the project for good.
