PSA: My DIY garden fence took 3 tries before the deer stopped laughing at it
Built a 4 foot chicken wire fence around my tomato patch in May. Deer jumped it like it wasn't even there on day one. Then I added a second row at 6 feet tall with wooden stakes, cost me about $45 more. They still found a way through the bottom gap after a week. Finally dug a 1 foot trench and buried the wire with rocks, spent another Saturday redoing everything. What did you guys use that actually kept wildlife out for good?

My buddy Steve tried the chicken wire route last summer. Put up a 5 foot fence around his green beans and the deer just sort of leaned over and ate the tops off. Then he did the whole double layer thing with t-posts and wire mesh, cost him like $80 and two weekends. They still got in by squeezing between the posts where he left a tiny gap. Finally he gave up and just planted a big patch of clover on the other side of his property to distract them. Worked better than any fence.

So is Steve running a deer sanctuary now or what? Sounds like he spent $80 on a fence and still ended up paying the clover tax.
