My wobbly bookshelf project changed how I see online tutorials

I keep seeing folks say you can fix anything with free videos. So I tried to build a floor-to-ceiling bookshelf. Saved cash by using scrap wood from old pallets. Didn't account for wall unevenness. The whole thing leaned badly, books slid off. I had to take it down after two days. Now I believe some failures don't teach you to try harder. They teach you your own skill ceiling. Everyone pushes the 'learn from mistakes' idea, but my mistake showed me to stick to buying furniture.

Maybe your skill ceiling is just the videos you picked. Sometimes you need a person to point at the wall and say "that part isn't straight" before you start.

My cousin tried to tile his bathroom after watching a bunch of tutorials. He spent hours getting the patterns right, but the grout lines were all over the place. Who notices that stuff until it's too late? His wife walked in and immediately spotted the wobble in the corner. Now he always asks for a second pair of eyes before the adhesive dries. Funny how we miss the obvious until someone points it out.
