My first real server crash took a full weekend to fix
I was setting up a basic web server for a friend's small business site on a Friday night. The install went fine but the site just wouldn't load, showing a generic error. I spent all Saturday checking config files and restarting services, thinking it was a software issue. On Sunday afternoon I finally checked the firewall logs and found the port was blocked, a simple fix that took about 10 minutes. Has anyone else lost a weekend to something that simple?

Free pizza is the worst consolation prize ever. It just makes you feel cheap and tired while you're still stuck fixing the same mess. I'd rather get paid for the extra hours or have that time back to actually live my life. A couple slices of cold pepperoni doesn't make up for missing your whole weekend. It's like they think our time has no real value. Give me a real solution, not a greasy band-aid.
