Can we talk about how I went from losing 3 big jobs in a row to landing a steady contract, all because I stopped giving free quotes over the phone?
After a brutal month last fall where I lost three estimates worth over $15,000 total by just giving a quick price on the phone, I started insisting on a site visit first, and within six months my close rate on those visits went from about 30% to nearly 80%.

Makes total sense. People value what they pay for, even if it's just your time for a visit. Free quotes attract the wrong kind of customer.

Absolutely. I read something similar a while back about how giving a number too early turns the whole talk into just a price check. When you make that visit, you're not just a number anymore, you're the expert in their home. They see the work you put in and start to trust you. That trust is what they're really buying, not just the lowest bid. Your numbers show it works.

Exactly what spencer_davis76 said. That visit changes everything. You're not a voice on the phone anymore, you're the person pointing at their actual roof or their real kitchen cabinets. They start asking real questions, and you get to solve problems they didn't even know they had. By the time money comes up, you're the obvious choice, not just a line item. It filters out the shoppers looking for a bargain and finds the clients who want the job done right.
