Appreciation post: My entire batch of pickles turned to mush last month. Figured out it was the wrong vinegar.

Gotta laugh at that paint thinner comment, @harper_rodriguez97, because my cousin did something similar with turpentine once. She thought any clear liquid in a jar would work for brine. Totally feel you on the wrong vinegar thing, it's a classic mistake. I did the same with apple cider vinegar once and my pickles just turned to sad, floppy mush. Now I label everything like a maniac.

Ugh, that's the worst. My grandma's bread and butter pickle recipe is foolproof, but one time I grabbed "cleaning vinegar" by mistake from the basement shelf. The whole jar smelled like a science project and the cucumbers turned into slimy, see-through ghosts. I had to throw out two quarts. Now I keep the cooking vinegar on a totally different shelf.

My aunt's basement pickles got ruined by paint thinner once.
