The grocery clerk who asked if I needed help loading my bags after I insisted I was fine.
At a Publix in Orlando last Tuesday, I let her help anyway and she said 'everyone needs a hand sometimes,' which made me rethink how often I say no to small kindnesses just to prove something to nobody, has anyone else had a stranger call them out on their independence like that?

Yeah that reminds me of this time I was trying to carry all six bags of mulch into my backyard by myself and my neighbor just stood there watching me struggle for like five minutes before finally going "you know I've got a wheelbarrow right?" Made me realize I'd rather look stubborn than ask for help sometimes.

Wait, he seriously just stood there watching for five whole minutes before saying anything? That's cold blooded even by neighbor standards. I would have just kept lugging those bags and refused to look his direction out of pure spite at that point.

Damn dude that's a whole different level of neighbor energy right there. I'd be standing there sweating, huffing and puffing, thinking this guy is just enjoying the show. Five minutes is way too long to just watch someone struggle without saying anything, lmao. At that point I'd probably just double down and act like I had it under control just to prove a point. But honestly I think your neighbor was probably waiting for you to ask and thought he was being helpful by waiting. Still though, you'd think common courtesy would kick in way sooner than five whole minutes.
