Shoutout to my friend who argued tipping 20% on takeout is actually wrong
She said the staff isn't providing the same service as dine-in, so a flat $5 is more fair. Now I'm second-guessing every coffee and pickup order I place.

Honestly, that's a pretty fair take. They're just handing you a bag, not serving you for an hour. I stick to a couple bucks or 10% for takeout, tops.

Oh gosh, @emma72 I think you're overthinking it a bit. I had a similar situation last month at a diner where the owner also rings you up and I just handed him a five dollar bill for a twenty dollar order, he nodded and that was that.

But what about places where the same person who cooks also bags it up and handles the cash? My local pizza spot is like that. If I don't tip on a big takeout order, that cook is losing out for work they actually did. Where do you draw the line between just handing over a bag and doing real work?
