My neighbor's package sat on my porch for three days
I was out of town last week and came back to find a box for the house next door on my steps. It was clearly something they needed, a big bag of dog food from the look of it. I felt bad, but I also wondered if I should just leave it since it was their mistake, right? I ended up taking it over, and they were super grateful, but what do you do when a delivery mess-up isn't your fault?

My neighbor's dog food sat on my porch for three days and I actually think aaronf40 has a point. Picking up a heavy bag when it's technically their mistake means they learned nothing about double checking their shipping address next time. Wouldn't it be better for everyone if the delivery driver had to deal with the misdelivery directly rather than turning you into the unpaid porch manager for the whole block?

Why would you ever take it over? They messed up the address, not you. That package becomes your problem the second it hits your porch, and you're just letting them off the hook for their own carelessness. You're setting a bad precedent where they'll expect you to fix all their delivery mistakes now. Honestly, leaving it there for the driver to finally notice and correct would have been the better lesson for everyone involved.

Aaronf40's take is wild, it's just basic neighbor stuff to move a box a few feet.
