Found a lost wallet at the grocery store last Tuesday.

It was on the floor near the frozen peas. Had about $60 cash and a driver's license. I took it to the service desk, but part of me wondered if I should have just tried to find the owner myself. Felt weird leaving it with a stranger. What would you have done?

Honestly, I used to try tracking people down myself. But after hearing a few stories about things going wrong, the service desk just seems like the smart move now. Saves everyone a lot of hassle, you know?

And @ninah10 is spot on about this. I remember last year I found a wallet with no ID inside, just cash and a gym membership card. Tried calling the gym and they were useless, wouldn't give me any info. Ended up wasting an hour driving around trying to figure it out. Finally just dropped it at the nearest service desk and they had it back to the owner in like 20 minutes. The whole "being a good samaritan" thing gets complicated fast when you can't actually verify who owns what.

Leaving it with a stranger does feel weird. I once found a phone and called the "mom" contact, which led to a very awkward conversation with a confused lady who didn't know whose phone it was. The service desk is probably the safer bet.
